Hyundai Commences Production Of 2015 i20 Hatchback
After taking the wraps off the all-new i20 sub-compact hatchback at the Paris Auto Show, Hyundai has now commenced the production of their new Euro-specs model.
Built at the automaker’s manufacturing plant in Turkey, the all-new Hyundai i20 adopts massive improvements in all key areas, including design, fit and finish and powertrain technology.
Furthermore, the sub-compact hatchback, which competes the likes of VW Polo, Renault Clio and Ford Fiesta, will no longer be available only as a 5-door hatchback!
In the mid of 2015, Hyundai will also release a sportier 3-door model, called the i20 coupe.
Additionally, another low-volume i20 version is planned for the 2015 launch and that is the i20 N version.
The i20 N will be a hot hatchback which will incorporate the automaker’s 1,6L T-GDI engine with up to 250 horsepower and adopt more aggressive exterior styling.
The i20 N will be a street version of the Hyundai’s i20 WRC car, which is being used in the World Rally Championship series this year.
It remains to be seen whether Hyundai will use the 5-door hatchback or the 3-door coupe as the base for their upcoming 2015 i20 N model.
Engine Range
As already mentioned, the i20 N hot hatch will be powered by the 1,6L turbo engine, which will churn out up to 250 horsepower.
Other powertrain options in the 2015 Hyundai i20 range will be the 1,25L and 1,4L gasoline engines and 1,1L and 1,4L CRDI diesel engines.
Sometime next year, Hyundai will expand the engine range by adding the long-awaited 1,1L T-GDI turbo engine with 120 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque.
Dealership Arrival Date
First models of the 2015 Hyundai i20 5-door hatchback should hit your local dealer stores before the year’s end.
The i20 3-door coupe will be launched in 2015, with first deliveries expected for the first half of next year.
