Hyundai has revealed it plans to expand its turbo engine line-up by introducing the entry-level 1,2L turbo unit this year.
The highly-efficient 1,2L turbo engine features gasoline direct injection technology and twin-scroll turbocharger for improved performance and fuel economy.
Hyundai has yet to announce the official performance figures for the new powerplant, but sources close to the carmaker suggest the engine will generate anywhere between 120-130 horsepower!
The highly-advanced 1,2L GDI turbo engine is expected to achieve excellent fuel economy and should release no more than 110 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
The first Hyundai car to be equipped with the new 1.2L turbo-four will be the revised i20 hatchback, which should hit the European Hyundai showrooms before the end of the year.
Just for your information; the i20 hatchback also offers a highly-advanced 1,1L diesel engine, which generates 75 horsepower and emits only 84 grams of CO2 per kilometer!
Apart from the new Hyundai i20, the same engine may also be used in the 2013 Hyundai i30, Kia Rio and new Kia cee’d. Hyundai’s a parent company of Kia Motors and shares its core automotive technology and parts with sister firm. Therefore, you can expect the 1,2L turbo GDI engine from Hyundai to appear in several Kia vehicles as well!
