Hyundai Veloster Convertible Coupe Concept Unveiled in Los Angeles
Hyundai Motor America takes the wraps off its Veloster Convertible Coupe Concept, which features a dual-function retractable roof!
The Hyundai Veloster C3 Roll Top was unveiled at the Los Angeles International auto show this week, and it really caught the eye and imagination of those in attendance.
The addition of a roll top and tailgate should add further appeal to the already popular vehicle.
Chris Chapman, chief designer, Hyundai Design North America said the team was inspired by the “rolling stone gathers no moss” proverb, with the goal being to deliver a vehicle that fits into multiple lifestyles.
The Veloster C3 Roll top is like multiple vehicles in one. The canvas roof can be retracted to allow for a summer cruise along the highway.
Put the top up, open that tailgate, fold the rear seats and you have the perfect recreation vehicle that can easily handle your bike, surfboard or kayak. You can easily go from beach chic to city cruiser in just a couple of seconds.
Once thought of as the ultimate hipster accessory, the fixed gear bike, or “fixie” for short, has quickly moved into the cycling mainstream. These bikes come in glorious colors and are minimalistic in design.
That said, they allow for an incredible amount of color and accessory coordination, with both rider and manufacturer playing a role.
The C3 delivers that same sort of aesthetic, with stylish design that is incredibly efficient.
The driver can easily change the look to suit their own style, with exterior modifications available for a very small fee. The Veloster C3 design team looked at a number of fixie bikes to help come up with a color scheme, before finally settling on red, white, black, and teal.
The Veloster C3 Roll Top concept base design came in high gloss white, which is contrasted by a flat black spoiler, license plate pocket and badge, and rear reflector bezels. The red shows up in the front mirror housings, with the teal appearing in the rear wheels.
Other highlights of the design include 18-inch chrome wheels, sculpted side skirts, a large hexagonal front grille, headlight LED accents, and more.
The urban theme of the C3 is continued with the addition of repurposed materials, which combine for a totally unique design. The soft top is billboard inspired and was put together using an industrial billboard tarp that had the “C3 Roll Top” logo stitched onto the fabric.
A number of used skateboard decks were thrown into the mix and used to line the cargo floor of the C3, giving the interior an incredibly unique mosaic. Skateboard grip tape was also used on the inside of the tailgates and can also be seen on the soft top when the roof is rolled forward.
The Veloster Convertible Coupe concept car is powered by a 1.6L turbo-charged GDI four-cylinder engine that packs 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb-ft of torque from 1,750 – 4,500 rpm with regular fuel. [Source: Hyundai Motor America]
