Hyundai sales
Hyundai sales last month increase 47 percent to the all-time record high!
Hyundai has just announced that August 2009 was the most successful month for the Korean automaker on US soil since it entered the market back in 1986. Hyundai sales last month climbed 47 percent to 60.467 vehicles, setting an all-time record and breaking the 60.000 units barrier in one month for the first time!
John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America told that August was a great month for the company and Hyundai dealers, with all-time sales records set for the Hyundai brand, Elantra sedan and Genesis sedan and Coupe.
Elantra saw the largest increase at 96.9 percent to 21.673 units, followed by Accent’s 56.5 percent to 10.099 and Veracruz’s 52.4 percent to 841. The figure brought this year’s total sales to 310,706, down 0.7 percent from 312,899 from the same period last year, amid the worst recession in decades. The out-going Tucson SUV also recorded a whopping sales increase of 50.2 percent to 2.531, while Santa Fe SUV experienced a 40.6 percent increase (10.791 units sold)
According to Dave Zuchowski, vice president of sales @ Hyundai Motor America, the successful Cash for Clunkers program stimulated the auto industry in time for the summer selling season and Hyundai will work to continue that sales momentum through the fall.
Latest new car sales data also reveals that overall global Hyundai sales for the month of August 2009 soared to 245.876 new cars from 196.452 vehicles sold in the same month of 2008. The best-selling model in South Korea last month was the Elantra, selling 9.168 units. According to Hyundai, out of 9.168 Elantras sold in Korea, 1.011 units were Elantra LPI Hybrid models, which has been on sale since July.
Sales of Hyundai cars were up in overseas markets ( 199.035 compared to 158.519 last year) as well as in its home Korean market ( 46.841 units versus 38.023 units in 2008).
Hyundai sales in August 2009:

they sold like 14,000 genesis this year. a shocker.
In a good way or a bad way?
As I said, it would be a waste of good R&D money that can be utilized elsewhere for a car (Azera) that sells only 300 a month.
Developing the Next Gen Azera makes as much sense as them Developing a Next Gen Tiburon, or a Next Gen Entourage.
Stick a fork in that car, the Azera is done. Good for the Sonata and Elantra to grow.
Those are very huge numbers!!!
Looking forward for the Third place into automarket
HOLY COW, the elantra sales have more then doubled compared to last year.
the genesis sales must be combined with the coupe version. anyways, more sales than the tucson. impressive
They should get rid of the Azera, then move the Sonata up to the Azera’s spot, Move the Elantra up to the Sonata’s spot, move the Accent up, and add 2 new B-Segment cars.
HyundaiSmoke: Azera might not sell well in the US market. We all know the reasons why (poor design, no marketing at all). But that doesn’t mean it is not successful elsewhere.
For example, in South Korea, the model sells pretty well and a few years ago it used to be one ofthe top three selling Hyundai cars there, with sales averaging from 5000 to 7000 units per month. That’s not a small number!
So it makes sense to develope next gen. Azera. Hyundai will continue to sell it in Korea, plus they can try again to conquer the NA market. Of course, in order to attract more US buyers, they will have to make it more attractive and unique to differentiate it from other products! Plus they’ll have to improve marketing strategy for the car.
I hear they don’t advertise it at all.
Last year in Iran Azera became the best seller imported car, Azera sold more than Camry in Iran and despite entering 2009 Citroen C5 still selling more than them. It became the most favorable car in its segment.
Hyundai USA stopped marketing the Azera because it didn’t “market well” with consumers. Their words not mine..
The car looks nice, but it’s hard to see proportions on these pics. I hope outward visibility is not obstructed by the high(?) beltline.
What does not market well mean JG?
I saw a nice looking chromed up Azera today at the DMV. It was sharp, but they can do that to the Sonata and call it a day.
The Azera market is definitely an older group who wants a larger car with more features. Hyundai needs to match everything the Avalon offers, such as laser cruise, or not bother. Also, the current TG is too far down on fuel economy vs. the Toyota. If it does continue, with the new 6AT and the 3.5 Lambda II V6, it certainly does have a chance, especially if Toyota goes ahead with previously mentioned plans of just offering a long wheelbase Camry.
Oh yeah, here’s something to note: Hyundai was up 38.4% over ’08 in a Canadian market that was down 7.9% overall. They were 156 down from beating Honda. Last year during the same period, Honda sold 5,986 more than Hyundai did. Doesn’t look like it’ll be too much longer before they’ll pass Honda up there too. They beat Nissan by 3,347, but then again they passed them a good while back now.
What is wrong with Americans and Canadians that cant get these Hyundai to Beat Honda in Sales? Globally Hyundai Spanks Honda.
Probably has to do something with the over supply of Baby Boomers we have who can still see Ponys and Excels
Just look at these sales guys. Our Core Products are: Accent, ELantra, Sonata, Tuscon, Santa Fe, Vercruz, and Genesis.
Accent-5 Door Hatch, a coupe (Veloster), and a Limted Edition Sedan.
Elantra-Sedan, Coupe (Veloster), and Wagon
Sonata-Sedan and Portico (Sonata Touring)
Veracruz should just be given RWD and AWD and called The Genesis Truck or something.
We have to get rid of the other stuff the: Tib, Entourage, and Azera. We need that extra money to provide the most optimal affordable near luxury experience possible.
There should also be a value Genesis to keep the Azera Market happy. Like a Genesis Blue or something with a smaller powertrain that gets 30 MPG. Price it at $27,000 MSRP.
Можно и поспорить по этому вопросу, ведь только в споре рождается истина.
