“HYUNDAI #1 IN CAR SALES IN CANADA

First quarter sales results place Hyundai first among combined sedan, coupe, and wagon segments

MARKHAM, ON, April 5 /CNW/ – On the strength of strong new models such as the Sonata and Elantra, the passenger car line-up of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. has landed at the top in terms of overall sales volume for the first quarter of 2011. Hyundai’s year-to-date passenger car sales of 18,704 units surpassed second-place Toyota (including its Lexus and Scion brands) by 219 units and third-place GM by 1,645 units.

Hyundai Canada offers a complete passenger car line-up ranging from the Accent subcompact to the Equus full-size luxury sedan, including the rear-wheel drive Genesis Coupe.

“There were three main reasons why our car sales did so well last quarter: Accent, Elantra and Sonata,” said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Canada. “The Accent has delivered value and fuel economy to help it become the best-selling subcompact for 2 years in a row. The Elantra sedan is still all-new in Canada’s critical compact segment and the nameplate has vaulted into the number-2 spot. And with unmatched style, safety and best-in-class fuel economy the Sonata has become the best-selling intermediate car in the country. Three cars in Canada’s three biggest segments and all are at or near the top of the sales charts.”

Hyundai Auto Canada, established in 1983 and headquartered in Markham Ontario, is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company of Korea. Hyundai vehicles are distributed throughout Canada by Hyundai Auto Canada and are sold and serviced through more than 195 dealerships nationwide.

  2. Mahesh Dhulashia says:

    Dear Sir
My name is Mahesh Dhulashia, I live in Bear-Delaware. Since last few days I was looking for a car. After much research and comparison among Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Hyundai Sonata, my wife and I decided to purchase Sonata-limited. For about a week in negotiation with 8-10 dealerships within 50- mile radius around our home, finally I choose Piazza Hyundai of Pottstown PA, which is about 80 miles from my home.

Before I went to receive my new Sonata-Limited from that dealership I had several back and forth following communications with two different sales people, via e-mail and phone.

First they quoted me $26894 -with tax and tag, which was way higher compared to the lowest quote I had received from other dealership ($24912, with Tax and Tag). They sent me an email offer to bit that price. But I asked them if they could go little lower so I can justify 160-mile trip to purchase the car.

They replied me saying that they would lower the price by $500. Upon my phone call, I confirmed that the price they offered me ($24412) was with tax and tag. Initially they said it won’t but, after looking at their first quote of $24912 (which was with tax and tag); they called me back and said they would include tax and tag and my door price would be net $24412, if I pay $500 car holding fess and pick-up the car next day (Saturday) or Monday. She also advised me to turn-down the bid from other dealership who quoted me $24912 with tax and tag.

The reason they were asking for holding fee was they wanted my commitment that I would not turned-around the deal and would not go back to the previous dealer. They also wanted me make sure that they do not sell that car to someone else and they can put “Sold” sign so no other sales person trade that car to other customer. Well it was understandable so, I gave my credit card numbers and they charged me $500 as car holding fess.

After that the sales person called me few times asking my Insurance policy numbers and advised me get there earlier to complete finance paperwork. My wife, parents and I were so excited about new car so, upon my request she sent me car pictures too!

Since the deal was finalized unexpectedly, I had to transfer money from separate banks, on line, saving account to checking account but because of Weekend I had not received money transfer confirmation until I left home on Saturday morning to pick up the car. So I had to ask my uncle for $5000. I had planned to put $7000 down payment.
We (My wife, Parents and I) left home at 10:30am with certain that we will get the car. My uncle, who is looking for new Hyundai-Sonata as well, could not come with us because of guest at his home. While on my way to the Piazza Hyundai dealership, the sales person called me and confirmed that we were reaching there on scheduled between 12:00 – 1:00pm.

We reached there at 12:20 after about two hours of drive! We met with both sales women, whom we were in touch since last two days. Then they showed us the car, got our driving licenses and took for test drive. We liked the car and then we set with her and started working on paperwork. As typical customer, I asked for more discount if she could give as since there was another pending purchase in line for my uncle, she said she would check with her manager if we could save more.

Now it was about 2:00pm and real drama stars…. The sales person went to grab the print outs, invoice etc and upon return she said the price she and her manager quoted us did not include tax and tag! But, she said the previous quote she gave ($24912) was with tax and tag.

So I recalled and reminded our two-conversations on tax and tag deal, she realized and agreed that I was right. On Friday, she had confirmed with her manager that that $24412 was with tax and tag and it would be my door price and then I had given her my credit card number for charge $500 as car holding fees. Then she went back to her manager…

They had closed door conversation… it took little longer so I went outside started looking around the car. After 30 minutes they came out side….

The manager approached me and said “Can I have your credit card please, we will return your $500″ without saying “Hi-Hello””, within a minutes he swiped my card and gave the receipt and left the counter without saying sorry or good bye… I felt so offal as he courtesy less.

I asked that sales person and she said “I am sorry I could not make him more agree” I noticed that her face was turned-down as well.

So I came outside the office within two minutes and started driving back to my home. In two hours my return driving no one from us (my wife, my parents and I) spoke a single word. It was quiet in my car, I was feeling too bad as my parents and wife had to suffer all day without lunch and even water…It was very difficult driving…

We reached home empty handed at 5:00pm, we were so tired, frustrated and socked and no one enjoyed Pizza that I ordered for dinner.

During test drive I promised that sales person that if our deal goes successful, I will spread the words about Hyundai-Sonata and the dealership but now we don’t have words…

If it was an error in quote, I totally understand that anyone can make mistake but it socked us that he did not offered any middle-options where both parties loose something and close the deal at around $24600… But he just kicked us out, without saying no sorry, no thanks! I think it was his plan to make us that far trip and end up with paying more money.

We felt so shame and humiliation because of his behavior… We never experienced this type of unprofessional-respect less behavior in life.

After going through this humiliation, I am not sure we will ever get Hyundai brand car. I wish you compensate us for this Humiliation and punish that manager Mr. Kirk Rowing, who spoiled our dreams, feelings, time, money, gas-mileage and effort of that sales person.

    If they would do this type of business, you will lose customer loyalty very quick, if they do not wanted me to sell the car then;
    (1) Why did you make me to put $500 holding fees, they wanted me commitment what about their commitment?
    (2) What about the time of one day at money we lost for 4 people?
    (3) What about our feelings and frustration and lost sleeps (it 2:57am now and I am drafting this mail for more than an two hours)
    (4) What about the deal I turned-down from other Hyundai dealers? They won’t give me the same price again….
    (5) Who would I convince my parents and wife as I feel I hurt their feeling.

If you find me reasonable, please reply me. Thank you!
