Hyundai Motor America -HMA reports December 2010 sales figures, sets full-year sales record!

Hyundai Motor America today announced December 2010 sales soared 33 percent to 44,802 units. For the entire 2010 calendar year, Hyundai Motor America registered a sales growth of 24 per cent, with 538,228 new Hyundai cars finding buyers in the USA.

Leading Hyundai sales last month were the Alabama-built Hyundai Sonata sedan and 2011 Elantra compact sedan with more than 15,000 and 13,000 units sold, respectively. In its first month on the market, the all-new Elantra, which achieves 40 miles per gallon in every variant, found 4,724 new owners.

December was another strong month for the 2011 Genesis luxury sedan, which recorded already the 18th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases. More than 2,300 units of Hyundai Genesis’ were sold last month, while year-to-date Genesis sales hit 29,122 units.

According to John Krafcik, president and CEO of HMA, Genesis market share has now exceeded the company’s most optimistic early projections, and has set the stage well for continued growth in premium segments.

Since mid-December Hyundai has had another premium vehicle on sale in the States. The all-new Equus luxury sedan, which competes against premium cars such as Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series, has experienced some pretty high demand so far. December sales have hit 196 units, which is not bad at all, since the model has just started to arrive to Hyundai stores.

Krafcik states Hyundai Equus sales should improve once more units hit the Hyundai dealerships! We certainly hope so!

Only 3,000 Azeras sold for the whole year??!! Here’s hoping the new 2012 Azera does much better.

  2. Derrick G says:

Since I’ve been tracking these, I’ll mention that as a group, H-K fell about 14K short of displacing Nissan for third among imports in the US for 2011. That margin is still 21K less than 2009, so 2011 will be fun to watch.

In Canada, Honda managed a strong year-end push to outsell Hyundai as a brand by a tad over 5K units. Still, the margin is about 14K less than the previous year, so again this will be fun to watch.

Also up north, a miserable December for Toyota allowed H-K as a group to overtake Toyota by about 400 cars for 2010 to become the top seller among importers.

  3. Derrick G says:

Correction: make that 357 cars more than Toyota in Canada. I shouldn’t have done that from memory.

    damn..making billions

  5. Heywood Joblome says:

Maybe if their making billions, they can kick the habit of roasting and eating domesticated animals over there (Dogs) and either go Vegan or try fish, chicken, beef or pork that was farm raised. Consuming what was your neighbors pet is not nice!

  6. Steve says:

They keep making the Azera but in the USA they are difficult to find. It is kind of difficult to find a dealer that ever has more than 1 GLS and 1 limited in stock for a total of 2 at a time.
