Four new Hyundai cars that belong to the group of “40-mpg” cars reach 100.000 units sales milestone!
Hyundai announced today it has reached yet another sales milestone on the U.S. soil. This time, the fastest-growing South Korean carmaker reported that it had sold 100.000 units of the so-called “40-mpg cars” faster than any other automobile maker.
Through the first 5 months, 29 percent of Hyundai’s sales volume topped 40 mpg highway fuel economy, while the number rocketed to 40 percent last month.
Hyundai’s “4 x 40″ strategy includes four models that reach 40-mpg fuel economy ratings. Those include the all-new Elantra compact sedan, which is currently the best-selling Hyundai nameplate in the States and also ignited the carmaker’s “4 x 40″ strategy.
It was followed by Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and the all-new 2012 Accent 5-door hatchback and sedan that are both just starting to reach U.S. Hyundai dealerships in volume. Sales of both models commenced in June.
Finally, the fourth car that belongs to the “4 x 40″ group is the all-new Veloster 3-door sports car, which has not reached the showroom floor yet. It is scheduled to go on sale this fall with a 40-mpg 1.6L GDI engine. The base 138-horsepower Veloster will later be joined by a more potent Veloster Turbo, which will pack a 208-horsepower turbocharged 1.6L engine.
“Hyundai aims to be the fuel economy leader and our ’4 x 40′ strategy is accelerating our overall fuel economy improvement, which now tops 35 mpg across the entire lineup. But we really see 40 mpg as a starting point. We are committed to at least 50 mpg corporate average fuel economy by 2025 and remain the only automaker to set our sights so high. Using a mix of technologies to improve the efficiency of our standard, internal combustion engine vehicles, combined with the smart application of hybrid technology, we believe we are on the right path ,” said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America.
