Hyundai Boss Confirms Genesis Plug-In Hybrid Models
Expansion is continuing for Genesis, Hyundai’s new luxury brand, but rather than cranking out new premium sedans, the company is making the move to bring in more plug-in hybrid models, after which they will look at hydrogen fuel cell variants.
This latest news development was broken by Dave Zuchowski, the CEO of Hyundai Motor America, as he believes that this is the area where future developments in the luxury segment will take place.
Hyundai has been making the shift to eco-friendly cars for some time now, but as of yet, no such vehicles exist in the Genesis line-up.
That is something that will change quickly, as Genesis looks to keep pace with the likes of Lexus, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz.
Genesis seem determined to take a luxury approach to all the major segments, with the plug-in hybrid a big part of their future.
The first new release for Genesis will be the G90, which will be followed by the G80 and the G70, which will be the final sedan that Genesis adds to the line-up for now.
There is also conformation of a pair of crossovers before the end of the decade, but Hyundai are keeping those details quiet right now.
Zuchowski believes that plug-in hybrid models are an excellent solution for consumers not quite ready to make the leap to an all-electric car.
They get a vehicle that is still more environmentally friendly than most, but which still offers the failsafe option of an internal combustion engine once it is out of electric juice.
