Elantra – The 5th Best-Selling Compact Car In October
Honda Civic leads October 2013 compact car sales, while Hyundai Elantra drops to 5th spot – USA!
October proved to be another month of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla going head to head in an attempt to be the top-selling compact sedan.
The Corolla took the top spot in September, but the Civic took the title back in October with a total of 27,328 units sold.
While The Corolla came in a distant second, it was still able to post a very impressive 23,637 units for the month of October.
The remaining vehicles in the segment were a long way off the top spot, with the Chevrolet Cruze taking third with a total of 16,087 units sold. That number represents a 15.9% drop over the same time last year.
The Ford Focus, which took fourth spot with 15,108 sales, also saw a huge dip in the numbers compared to the previous year. As a side note, the Cruze has moved ahead of the Focus in year to date numbers, opening an 8,100 unit lead.
Hyundai Elantra Drops From 3rd To 5th Spot
Hyundai Elantra compact car dropped from third to fifth in October, selling 14,876 units. The good news for Hyundai, though, is that their overall sales saw a large 7% gain over the previous October.
The main reason why Elantra sales fell last month lies in the production shift. According to Hyundai, the Montgomery plant focused on the rollout of the new 2014 Sonata sedan in october.
The plant produced 61 percent Sonatas and 39 percent Elantras last month, while previously, the automaker focused on building the hot-selling Elantra.
That lead to decreased sales of the Sonata during the summer and record high sales numbers for the Elantra.
In sixth place was the VW Jetta with 11,710 units sold, which represented another big sales drop off.
The Nissan Sentra was next on the list with 8,399 units sold. The Mazda 3 was eight, just behind the Sentra with 7,674 units sold.
The last vehicle in the top 10 was the Dodge Dart and the Subaru Impreza/WRX with 5,617 and 4,923 units, respectively.
At the very back of the pack was the Kia Forte with 4,706 units and the VW Golf with 2,249 units sold.
