Australia: Hyundai increases sales and acquires record market share

Hyundai sells 6.560 new cars and SUVs in Australia during the month of August. Takes record-high market share.

Hyundai Motor Australia announced it has sold 6.560 new cars and SUVs in Ausutralia last month. This was the automaker’s best August sales result since it entered the market back in 1986.

According to the report, Hyundai acquired a record-breaking monthly market share of 8 percent in August 2010 and was ranked fourth for the month in total sales and third for the month in passenger car sales.

There are several models that performed exceptionally well last month says Hyundai. Those models include the subcompact car called Getz, which was ranked first in the light car segment. Hyundai sold 1.789 units of the sub-compact Getz (15.4 percent market share).

The i30 range, ( five-door hatch and i30 wagon models – known as Elantra Touring in the USA) took the No.3 spot in the small car segment. Hyunda dealers in Australia sold 2.496 units of i30 through August 2010. Compared to a year ago, sales of i30 range have soared thanks to the introduction of i30 Trophy special edition models.

The iMax and iLoad vans both took second spot in the “people mover” and “van” segments.The iMax posted a sales result of 176 units and an 18.9 percent market share, while the iLoad posted sales of 428 units and a 23 percent market share.

“The team at Hyundai dealer network are delighted with the Hyundai brand’s best-ever August sales result,” commented Damien Meredith, Director of Sales at Hyundai Motor Australia.
