2013 Hyundai Accent 1,6L GDI gets Active ECO system
Hyundai are looking to go above the ordinary in the subcompact category with the 2013 Accent.
Car buyers can expect to find a ton of standard equipment, incredible comfort, and overall great value for money from the Accent, now in its second year of production.
Standard features on the 2013 Hyundai Accent include heated side mirrors, remote keyless entry and air conditioning.
The SE model will feature turn indicators on the side mirrors that deliver an extra level of safety. Buyer’s will also have the option of adding a power sunroof on the Accent SE.
The Accent has already proven to be a hot with Hyundai car buyers. Through May this year, the Accent has seen sales increase by 51% over the same period in 2011. If you remove the fleet numbers, the Accent is up an astonishing 139% in sales.
It’s not only buyers that are taking notice of the 2013 Accent, as it has also caught the eye of Industry insiders, nabbing several awards since its release in April 2011.
WardsAuto has been high on the Accent, and it has also been rated the top subcompact sedan, ahead of the likes of Chevrolet Sonic, Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris. Ward’s chose the Accent’s all-aluminum 1.6L Gamma four-cylinder engine as on of their 10 Best Engine’s.
2013 Accent 1,6L GDI engine
The engine in question delivers 138 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque and a best-in-class standard 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway EPA fuel economy rating.
The engine is highlighted by its use of Gasoline Direct Injection -GDI technology, which just happens to be a first in the subcompact category.
The GDI engine controls the injection of fuel, which results in better fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and more power. The fuel economy and emissions are also improved courtesy of the Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing on both intake and exhaust camshafts.
The fuel sipping performance of the Accent can also be attributed to an Alternator Management System, an offset crankshaft design, variable induction system and electronic throttle control.
The 2013 Hyundai Accent comes with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission with both options delivering efficient power and a smooth drive.
The smoothness of that drive is enhances by the aerodynamic design of the Accent, which includes wheel arches that shield the tires and a kicked up trunk edge. The silica tires help reduce friction with the road.
Active Eco System
To top it all off, the Active ECO system smooths out the throttle response by modifying transmission and engine control.
Simply switching on the Active ECO system can mean a 7% increase in real-world fuel economy.
The negative effect of so many additions is usually an addition to the overall weight, but that is no the case with the 2013 Hyundai Accent. It comes with a low curb weight which helps with fuel efficiency and other dynamic areas.
