2012 Hyundai Accent gearbox: six-speed automatic or manual
The all-new 2012 Hyundai Accent is going to be offered with six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox.
Hyundai Accent is the South Korean carmaker’s entry-level model in the U.S. market. After six years on the market, the popular sub-compact car received a complete styling makeover and new more advanced powertrain technology.
Technical upgrades that set the new 2012 Hyundai Accent miles ahead of its predecessor are the brand-new 1.6L gasoline four-cylinder engine with implemented gasoline direct injection -GDI technology and Hyundai’s in-house developed six-speed automatic gearbox.
Unlike the previous generation Hyundai Accent, which was available with the “old-school” 4-speed automatic transmission, the 2012 model will be offered with the automaker’s new six-speed automatic gearbox. The six-speed automatic transmission was developed in conjunction with Hyundai’s sister company Kia Motors and will be available also in new Kia Rio, as well as other compact cars from Hyundai Motor Company. Those include new Hyundai Elantra car, Hyundai i30 hatchback, Hyundai i20 and new Sonata mid-size sedan.
According to Hyundai, the all-new six-speed automatic gearbox is 11 pounds lighter than the four-speed unit it replaces and also 17 pounds lighter than comparable gearboxes found in competitor’s cars. Having 62 fewer parts than previous gearbox, it is also considerably simpler, which is a key to increased durability, lighter weight and lower cost states Hyundai.
In addition to six-speed automatic gearbox, the 2012 Hyundai Accent will also be offered with six-speed manual transmission.
